FIFA Confederations Cup 2017– Here Is All you Need To know

The FIFA Confederations Cup basically sets the ball rolling for the FIFA World Cup. The Confederations Cup occurs every four years; hosted by the host nation of the upcoming World Cup. Though every footballing nation’s dream is to play on the biggest stage  in the world (World Cup),the Confederations Cup is subsequently important as it gives us a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming World Cup.. 

The Confederations Cup is also very  vital to the host nation as it shows the world how prepared and ready they are for the upcoming World Cup. This year’s World Cup which is hosted  by Russia will put the country to the test on security issues, social issues andlots more.. 

Confederations Cup 2017 This year’s competition will consist of Champions from each Continent, the host Nation and of course the World Champions. These teams will play for the right to be called “Confederation Champions” hence the bragging rights and title till the next Tournament is played.. 

Champions competing in this year’s edition are: Russia (Host Nation), Germany (WorldCup Winners), Cameroon (African Champions), Australia (Asian Champions), Portugal (European Champions), Mexico  (CONCACAF Champions), New Zealand (OCEANIA Champions),and Chile (Copa America Champions).. 

Group A – Confederations Cup2017

Group A consists of Russia (who are currently topping thegroup with 3 points), Mexico, Portugal, and New Zealand.The Host (Russia) kicked off this year’s Tournament with aconvincing 2-0 win against New Zealand. It was the ideal start for the Russians in a game played at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg. The President  Vladimir Putin and Fifa chief Gianni Infantino were in  attendance and both gave speeches before kick-off . Russia  went ahead in the first half (31’)of the Group’s encounter with this win. They took the lead through Michael Boxall’s first-half own goal and Fedor Smolov scored a second from close range after the break (69’).. 

The next day saw Portugal endin a 2-2 draw against Mexico; who were lucky to sneak one inat the 91st minute of the game..

Group B – Confederations Cup 2017 

Group B has Chile at the top by goal difference after a 2-0 victory against Cameroon. In second place with the same point as Chile is Germany aftera 3-2 victory against Australia.

Knockout Stage.. 
The knockout stage will have the winner from one group go against the runner-up from the other  group. If the match is not settled at the end of normal playing time, then an extra 30 minutes of 15minutesper half will be played and eventually a penalty shoot-outwill decide the winner.We really hope to see an interesting and outstanding game of football played by all teams...
